It was a lot easier than I thought it would be to plan my outside wedding and reception. It turns out that it was a lot cheaper in cost than it would have been to have an indoor wedding. Since we had the flowers and mother nature everywhere, I didn’t have to spend a lot of money on decorations. The first thing on my agenda was to find that perfect place to hold our summer wedding and reception party. I thought about a super beach wedding and reception, or maybe have it in a gorgeous garden, but I decided to have our ceremony and reception in the park. I found several perfect parks that would work fine for our wedding day.

I wasn’t really sure where to start, so I shopped around for some much needed suggestions. I found out you need to have a plan B, in case inclement weather unexpectly arises. A tent was suggested just in case the weather turns out badly.

Plan “A” was setting up a gorgeous trellis for our ceremony to be performed under and canopies for the reception. I only had to get decorations for my bridal table and the reception tables for our friends and family. With the park as our main theme, I basically had to make sure I had our table settings and maybe throw in a few extra bouquets of flowers. By using artificial flowers I thought we may be able to avoid any univited guests, like bees. The flowers were absolutely gorgeous and didn’t look artificial at all. Planning this wedding wasn’t all that hard, but there was a little more than I expected. There are some spectacular summer wedding themes, but the sun can turn your beautiful wedding cake into a gooey pool of confection.

There was a variety of accessories available for the outdoor reception. Each of our guest had a park bench place card holder and the centerpieces were flowers arranged around a glass globe with citronella votive candles inside. Everything at the wedding and reception were fantastic. Plan B never had to be used, since the weather was so beautiful, and thankfully it remained that way through the whole evening. The DJ we hired was really exceptional and I’m sure that the music played on long after my new husband and I left for our honeymoon. Everyone commented on what a lovely ceremony and super reception we had. I’m so glad I decided to go with a wedding in the park. If we should decide somewhere down the line to have a renewal wedding ceremony, I think I’d like to have it in the park again.

When I got married, a long, long time ago, about the only options we had, was the traditional wedding, a justice of the peace or elopement. Now there are so many different types of weddings you can really have your ceremony exactly the way you want to. There are even long distance weddings, where everybody takes a trip to where the wedding will take place. It’s like having a family elopement. In a few months my daughter will be married and I offered to help her plan her wedding and she decided to have a country western wedding. We ordered a customized wedding cake topper and expected to pay a lot more than we actually did for it. This lovely cake topper was a bride and groom figurine that were exact replicas of me and my fiance, and our guests were really astonished. All that was required of us was to turn in a couple of head shots of each of us so they would have something to work with. The wedding cake itself was pretty magnificent too, with three tiers of chocolate perfection and gorgeous red and and pink flowers all around it.
